Sojourn (soh-jurn)

verb: to stay for a time in a place

noun: a temporary stay

When one considers it, the world of wine is all about sojourns. In 1950 Max Schubert took a several month sojourn in Europe from his Australian homeland. He returned with the inspiration to create Grange, the undisputed king of Aussie wines. But your week in Tuscany last spring was a wine sojourn too, with undoubted unique experiences and memories. Even the bottle of Napa cab you might have with dinner tonight can represent a special sojourn, with a bouquet that transports you back to the stroll you took through the vineyard the first time you visited that winery.

Vine Memories has a mission to help our followers in their quests to "stay for a time" in wine destinations worldwide, whether their time there is physical or in the magical transport that a great glass of wine can deliver.

The wide, wide world of wines

One of the beautiful aspects of making wine a part of your journey through life is the incredible range of geography that the wine world encompasses. For most Americans, Napa is the source of quality wines that is best known. But Napa makes up only a tiny portion of California wines. And wines are made in Washington, Oregon, New York, Texas and many other states. Add in South America and Australia and you have covered most of "New World" wines.

That vast expanse of wine producing regions could take a lifetime to fully explore. But then you have "Old World" wines. Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Greece, Lebanon, Israel...and more.

Each of these regions is composed of sub-regions, most with their unique weather, soil, grape varietals and vinification methods and traditions. And very often they have other things that make them unique, ranging from cuisine to architecture to history to dialects. But always the people, so varied and yet so part of the human family.

So many places, so many Vine Memories to create!
